Pancake Fever!

Today we took the opportunity to introduce our international students to the English tradition of Shrove Tuesday, better known to some as Pancake Day.

Hard to believe but the English have been tossing pancakes since the 15th century! What an earth for, you may ask yourself? Well, as a last chance to indulge in ‘luxurious’ ingredients such as butter, eggs and sugar before Lent, a time of fasting in the Christian calendar, which starts the day after Pancake Day and leads up to Easter.

The ‘pancake café’ was open all day and students were able to enjoy a selection of delicious fillings, including banana, caramel and Nutella, as well as the more simple yet classic topping of freshly squeezed lemon with a light dusting of sugar.

However, it wasn’t all indulgence…people were feeling rather generous too! Just over £100 was raised throughout the day and all proceeds will go towards Sport Relief.

Special thanks go to our college PA, Laura Fortuna, for organising the event and making Shrove Tuesday such a fun and memorable day!
